111 B.C.- The Viets' kingdom, Nam Viet, is captured by the Chinese.
108 B.C.- The Chinese Han Dynasty invades northern Korea.
75 B.C.- Korea fought and won back most of the lost land. During the next 700 years, three main kingdoms formed.
A.D. 40- Trung Trac and her sister, Trung Nhi, rebell against China's rule. Vietnamese rebelled many time over the next few centuries.
400- Japanese words used the Chinese "alphabet".
400s- The central Yamato clan becomes the most powerful clan. This family includeed the first emperors.
A.D. 500s- Buddhism spread to Japan and became popular.
The mainland peninsula kingdom of Khmer was established.
600s- The Japanese started the art of brushpainting.
The Silla kingdom from the southeast conquered Korea and drove out the last of the Chinese.
Early 800s- Japan cut off relationships with China.
Late 800s- The ruler of Khmer began the construction of a new Angkor capital.
900s- The Chinese Tang Dynasty weakened, so the Vietnamese were under self-rule again.

1200s- Chinese Mongols conquered Korea.

1300s- Noh, a new type of drama developed.
Late 1300s-The empire of the Mongols falls in China and they lose control of Korea.
1392- The Yi family started Korea's Choson Dynasty, which ruled for over 500 years.
1407- The Chinese Ming Dynasty invaded and ruled the Vietnamese kingdoms.
1428- Viets drove out the Ming Dynasty and regained self-control.
1431- The Thais conquered Angkor.
Mid-1500s- Oda Nobunaga began reuniting Japan.
1582- Oda Nobungaga dies and his best general, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, took over.
Late 1500s- The Choson Dynasty turned back an invading army.
